Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, writer, and comedian. He released his debut studio album Camp in 2011, which features the hit single "Heartbeat". His second album, Because the Internet, was released in 2013 and was accompanied by a 72-page screenplay and a interactive website. It features collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Jhené Aiko, and Azealia Banks.
In 2016, Childish Gambino released his third studio album Awaken, My Love!, which marked a departure from his previous rap style and embraced funk and soul influences. The lead single "Redbone" became a major hit and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
In 2018, Childish Gambino released the surprise single "This Is America" which tackles issues of police brutality, racism, and gun violence in the United States. The accompanying music video, directed by Hiro Murai, was widely praised for its powerful imagery and social commentary.
Childish Gambino's fourth and reportedly final album 3.15.20 was released in 2020, with a sudden drop on Donald Glover's website. The album was later released on streaming platforms. The album features Donald's son, Legend, on the track "47.48". The album is seen as a return to his rap roots, but still incorporating elements of Funk, Soul, and R&B.
